How To Make Bulletproof Coffee
In 3 Easy Steps
Order Organic, Fair Trade, Rainforest Alliance CertifiedTM Coffee Beans: If you’re not grinding your own beans and brewing a fresh pot of coffee every morning (like we are) then you’re basically drinking gasoline—your body is going to treat it that way. Do yourself a favour and buy high-quality organic coffee from a store that you trust. The other thing to pay attention to is where it’s grown. Arabica beans (which are more caffeinated than Robusta) tend to grow at higher altitudes on mountainsides; Robustus generally like warmer regions near valleys. Try for something medium roasted rather than dark roasted if possible, which has less caffeine but still maintains its rich flavour.
Brew coffee in a blender – Since you’re making enough coffee for multiple servings, it makes sense to do all of your measurements and blending at once. The easiest way to do that is in a blender. You can add everything except for your fat source and coffee in a large blender and blend until smooth. When you’re ready to add your coffee grounds and fat source, remove them from the freezer (or refrigerator) so they are nice and cold before you pour them into your drink.
Use grass-fed butter and MCT oil to make your own bulletproof coffee. Add one or two tablespoons of grass-fed butter (or coconut oil, which has a similar consistency) and a tablespoon of medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) oil or 2–3 tablespoons of Brain Octane Oil. Begin with small amounts; you can always add more. Mix in an appropriate blender for about 20 seconds until frothy and creamy, with little to no chunks remaining. If you’re using coconut oil or MCT oils, warm them slightly so they blend more easily. Pour over your freshly brewed cup of black coffee. Enjoy! Remember that homemade bulletproof coffee is not appropriate for keto diets as it usually contains grains like almond milk.
